The Night Sings
Along with Night Walkers, the return of a few Night Terrors will haunt 5.3. Not ALL of them are back.... yet. We needed to look at performance so we kept it toned down. Night Walkers will despawn in the morning but the Terrors will remain. Do not worry though because there is a HUGE new feature that will make sure you do not see a Terror until you are ready...
All the Worlds a Stage
The ENTIRE game is now gamestaged. The incredibly talented wOOkie nOOkie has enabled me the chance to gamestage every aspect of the game. Wilderness Spawns, Wandering Hordes, Biome Spawns, Night Time Spawns ALL of it is now set according to your gamestage so you wont see ferals or cops on Day 2. Not until you reach over a certain gamestage. Night Terrors do not spawn pre Gamestage 25. Gamestage tiers are as follows:
GS1 - Normal Zeds
GS25 - Tier 2
GS100 - Tier 3 and Night Terrors
GS300 - Bosses and Tier 4
GS500 - Tier 5 and Radiateds and more Bosses
This ensures you do not get overwhelmed and also that the challenge increases as your level increases
Living Off The Land
Farming has received an overhaul. Living Off the Land is now gone as you know it. You buy the first level and can make and plant any seeds you want.... as long as you find seed packs. Those are loot only now. Farming still requires water, but we have added back in Fertilizer, the Composter and yes Turds. Fertilizing your planted seed will allow it to grow in HALF the time it normally would.
Now when you harvest your plant you will receive one crop and one seed everytime. This slows huge farms down a bit but also opens up the possibility to have a farm on day 1 or 2 and begin the process right away. There are also some new farm pois designed by sinder as well as biomes with wild growing specific crops.
Wookies Suite of DLL Harmony Tweaks
It goes without saying that wOOkie nOOkie has been a major driving force behind Ravenhearst this go around. He has designed a host of dll tweaks to game mechanics to increase difficulty and functionality. By enabling Harmony usage at the very start of 5.1 development he opened up doors for us never thought of before. Here is a sampling of what he has done:
Anti Nerd Poling: No longer can you jump and place frames. You have to plan out your builds with ladders and other blocks now. More realistic and challenges people to come up with new ways of overcoming challenges
Recipe Ingredient Limit Removal: Recipes can now have dozens of ingredients so we are no longer restricted to 5. If a recipe has MORE than 5 there will be an arrow below the description you can click. It will scroll through the pages of ingredients.
Blood Moon Vehicle Disabled: Our mod introduces challenges we expect players to face. Vehicles will become disabled on Horde Night. Bicycles will still work. Think of red moon and horde night like an EMF bomb, electricity is whacked during it.
Safe Zone: Players in SP and those who start with a fresh server will see no spawning until 2200 on Day 1. This does NOT include sleepers.
Combine: The workbench now has Combine returned but NOT in the way you think. It is now used so that you can repair two worn down items with NO quality loss. You can now store your damaged tools and weapons and reuse them to repair similar items later on. The combiner will not combine for a QL higher than your highest weapon though.
Gamma Limiter: This may cause some controversy but we have set a limit on Gamma to 75. The reason for this is we have noticed players jacking their gamma up so they can see in house and at night. Some of these pois were designed with shadowy dark corners in mind. A little gamma bump is ok but bumping to 100 defeats the work put in by our POI makers. This is till open to some editing and tuning.
Trader XP: You will no longer level your Player by selling items. This is a gameplay decision made by me. I want actions to count for your level not selling to traders. Other aspects of traders are the same... for now
Shared XP Limiter: When shared party XP first released we all assumed that it would be for questing and groups who work together. Recently it is accounting for people who do not level their weapons or skills but gain levels from party XP. This has led to complaints of tough zombies and unfair gamestages. We have hardcoded the xp sharing to 200M. The reason is gamestage related. Too many undergeared, under powered players who dont go questing with their partners are getting killed by zombies at the gamestage when their skills are not ready.
Descriptions: Now the station something is crafted in and the tool you need are automatically displayed at the end of every description.
We know that playing with texture streaming off is not an option for everyone so I have gone back and relooked at every single asset in the mod. I've lowered resolution to no more than 1k, dropped a lot of 4k to more reasonable sizes and removed some bloat. Hopefully this will help reign in some performance issues for everyone.
Hello Old Friend
A LOT of missing deco items and storages from RH 3 and 4 have made their return. We have added dozens of new decos, stations, storage and buildables. There are double the choices you have now in 5.1. Storage is now perk locked and perks for deco items have been redesigned.
The backpack perk is now gone. In its place are backpacks that you can find in the world that unlocks three slots at a time to your inventory. These can be found in dressers, semis and other clothing related loot spots.
A New Way Of Old Things
Most of the Journal Quests have had a revisit. The Pen quest has been given a makeover, as has Archaeology and we have added some new one too all geared towards teaching the player about some of our new items and mechanics.
Food and Drink have had a rework in terms of materials needed, recipes added and how hard you need to work to keep up your levels. Food of any kind will now make you thirsty. Roughly half of the amount of health/food that something gives you will drain you of your water/stamina (not overall, the blue bar) while some of the best foods have had some tweaks with buffs and positives as well as negatives. Planning food will be important.
Dont Drink That
All water is now infected in lakes and rivers and pools. You will need a water filtration unit which you can easily make to cleanse the water of the deadly virus. From there you can boil as usual. There is a quest associated with this to teach you. This also applies to buckets of water. But there are also quests from traders and if you are lucky you can earn a water cooler!
Traders Giveth and Taketh
Economy has had a major major overhaul. Its gone. Traders no longer buy ANYTHING but you can still buy from them. How do you earn? You earn Tellers by completing quests and searching. Teller amounts have been increased everywhere so you can find more. There are also new pois with slot machines in the world where you can gamble found Tellers for even more Tellers.
The Quest Ahead
Along with several new journal questlines, the traders have received a handful of new quests. The rewards system has been tripled, with furniture, storage, new weapons and tools, schematics and resources like twine, bits, tarps and more as rewards now so you will receive different types of rewards everytime you complete a quest. New trader quests will unravel a bit more lore as well as offer you some nice rewards like a police car schematic or a water cooler that can be used to fill bottles.
Over a dozen new pois from talents like Genosis including his Library and Izea, more than a dozen reworked POIs thanks to the tireless work of our dev sinder with all new sleepers and loot spots as well as new paint and decos, new farms and crop patches as well as several new pois based on famous locations such as Taco Bell, Subway and Walmart. The world is fuller than ever!
A Builders Dream
Apart from over 50 new deco blocks i have also created several new block placeholders for poi makers. From new corpses to arcade and slot machines to miscellaneous trash decos like bullets and blood and liquor bottles and posters and potted plants, new mail box and trash can placeholders, now POI builders who wish to make RH specific pois can design them with variety in mind. More placeholders to come as well.
17.4 brought us a much better mixer and with it comes some new tweaks. Much more wilderness pois have been added, towns spaced out a bit and now a mix or rural/town/city/farmland will bring a variety of pois to the map. Wasteland and Burnt have been reduced a bit but are much more deadly now. Plains has been readded and new biome decorations and flavor have been tweaked and added giving the world a slightly more lived in look.
Progression that means Progressing
Levelling has been slowed down quite a bit to give the old RH way of doing things more prominence. Now as you buy perks point costs will increase so you need to get out there and work those quests, which after tier 4 will award skill points. All main attributes are now Player Level dependent. Perks have been rebalanced so as not to give the appearance of a character becoming Superman by Perk 5 of everything.
A Classy Idea
Classes have been extended. Some have been lengthened to include all their weapons while Guns Classes are now split into Pistols/Rifles/Shotguns/Automatics. Completing all gun classes will unlock the elusive Weapons Bench which will allow you to craft your own gun parts from pieces you receive when scrapping parts you find in the world.
Quality has been returned to 7 Days to Die thanks to @wOOkie nOOkie and his coding genius. Each tool and weapon now has a quality level. 1,120. Each 20th level is considered next tier and every single item has had stats attached to them so that finding new weapons and tools is no longer a boring process. Loot is exciting again! Find level 72 pickaxe, but know there are better out there. This will promote levelling as well as scavenging.
Better Watch That Weapon Boy
Along with Quality returning we have Degradation returning as well! Thanks to @wOOkie nOOkie your weapon and tool will now degrade by 10 Quality Levels each time you repair it at the start. Wookie has also implemented a Red Box that will show around your tool when it hits 20 percent durability so that you will have a visual aid.
On top of this we've taken care of any mods that are in your item or weapon. If when repairing a weapon the quality reduction results in a lose of a mod slot any mod in that lost slot will be placed in the players inventory. Be careful to have a spare slot though as a full bag and inventory will result in the mod falling on the floor!
So how do you salvage this? By levelling Construction Tools. Each 10th level of Construction Tools reduces that number by 1. So level 11 in Const Tools you will lose 9 Durability and so on. A true progression system. So, how do you level Construction Tools?'
Actions Speak Louder than Perks
Action Skills have returned. Along with Quality you will receive a slight bonus in stats every time you level an Action Skill. This is Learn by Doing. Use axes and picks to level Construction, Bows to level Archery, Blades to level.... well Blades. Every level earned grants you a small bonus in damage so you will feel the items you use growing stronger with you. You can keep track of your Action Skills progress on the skills screen.
You Have Some Red On Ya
No not the buff from 4 lol But ZOMBIES! Zombies now come in Tiers. 1-5. More may be added as we go forward but for now Tier 1 are vanilla type zombies. Tier 2 are stronger and look and sound different from the others. Tier 3 are almost feral like and dangerous! They also look and sound different. Tier 4 and 5 are considered Radiated but the Radiated buff has been reworked a bit so it's not as spongey. These later tier zeds only come on horde nights. But tiers 1-3 can occur at any time in the wild, although 3 is MUCH rarer.
Oh yeah have i mentioned no more radiateds in pois? These have been replaced with strong ferals. Trolling only works on the internet not in POIs.
Shhh they will hear you...
Wandering Hordes as you know them have changed. Thanks to @wOOkie nOOkie we now have GAMESTAGED WH until GS 1000 and beyond. That's right. Like Blood Moons Wandering Hordes now take into account your actual gamestage. I have added multiple new waves of appropriate WH groups so ferals wont be appearing until after GS 50 WH and so on.
This will allow us to KEEP WH dangerous even into late game as we can adjust up in gamestage what type of WH you get. Also be careful. We have heard rumors of some strange occurrences during these hordes....
We have reworked how vehicles are made completely. You will need to find engine parts, sirens, exhausts and more from harvesting vehicles with the crowbar. There is now an Auto Workbench found in Gas Station POIs (they may or may not work) and those are used to construct parts.
We have included all the vehicles you have seen around the internet like Guppycurs Police Car and Ambulance, as well as Box Trucks, Military vehicles and Dusts Bus and Monster Truck. All of these vehicles have their own unique assemblies and parts and are locked behind schematics you must find in the world.
Barnes and Noble? Where!
That's right. Books are back. Instead of perks most things are now locked behind them and you have to find them. They scrap into KP which also returns. Additional classes are made from KP. There is also a set of limited edition novels you can find in the world made by @sinder that scraps into a stack of paper for you to use.
Ravenhearst 5 introduces a new Journal questline. Intended to be an interactive story of your life in the apocalypse, in this release we have the beginnings of the system that will have you creating chapters in your journal. Each chapter relates to a different aspect of the game from classes, survival skills, secondary skills and construction. But be careful what you write in your journal. You only have so much ink in your pen, and so many chapter pages.
Ravenhearst has always been about more realistic crafting and v5 is no exception. In this edition you are given a Personal Workbench at the start. This is your hub for all things crafting. The backpack has very limited recipes, just the absolute basics. You will need to carry this table with you. It can be picked up easily by destroying it.
Along with the bench, there are multiple stations that you remember from RH as well as complex recipes such as tool heads for crafting tools, molds for forge crafting and vehicle parts. More will be added as we progress ahead.
Decorations All Year Round
From RH favorites to all new items to modlets created by the community there is no shortage of things to decorate your base with. Cleans sets of furniture, tvs, holiday items, playable radios and record players, a working Theater Screen and video player, posters, flags, paintings and so much more with even more intended to be added we are looking to become the ultimate builders mod as well as the ultimate survival mod.
Going forward we plan to release holiday themed content as well.
You Wanted SP you GOT SP
Thanks to @wOOkie nOOkie you will now gain 5 Skill Points every 10 levels as a boost to your perks. You can use these points just like any other and they are automatically added. So every 10 levels you have something to look forward to!
Two new items found in RH are the alarm clock and the glowstick. Glowsticks come in a few colors and are loot only. They provide a ring of light around you and can be used up to 1m away from a zombie. Alarm clocks are also found and like a bomb have a "detonation" time when held in hand. Throw the alarm clock down a street or in a house and when the clock rings (5 second fuse time) the zombies in the immediate area will wander to it to check on it. Be careful though, when it stops ringing the zombies will wander away!
Ravenhearst has been brought to you by several amazing and talented people in this community. Without the hard work of my Development Team and Our amazing Testers this mod would not be possible.
Sinder - POI Design and Redesign/ QA/Art/Documentation
WookieNookie - Coding/Programming/Harmony Implementation
Shades - Documentation/QA/Test Team Lead
KnightRath - Balancing/QA
While all of our Devs are also testing their work, we have a dedicated team of testers who play test to ensure the mod is working up to standards. Without them bugs and balancing issues would not be as tight as they are so please offer them some words of thanks for their long hours and tireless efforts.
